Gamma Ray Digital purchases Lasergraphics ScanStation 2k film scanner.

BOSTON, MA, September 10, 2013 – Gamma Ray Digital, Boston’s premier Blu-ray and DVD authoring facility, has expanded its growing list of services with the installation of a ScanStation 2k film scanner from Lasergraphics, Inc.

“Since 2000, we’ve offered affordable, high quality DVD, Blu-ray and digital film restoration services to independent filmmakers and labels, archives, museums and libraries,” says Gamma Ray Digital President Perry Paolantonio, “With the ScanStation we have expanded our services to include high resolution film scanning for small gauge film, a significant market segment that’s often overlooked.”

The ScanStation installed at Gamma Ray Digital is capable of high speed, high quality 2k data scanning of 16mm, Super 8mm and Regular 8mm film, including audio, and can create simultaneous files in different formats and resolutions. This allows the company to offer very competitive rates with quality that surpasses that of traditional telecine transfers.

“We chose the ScanStation after years of research into systems that would be appropriate for archival film scanning. Lasergraphics has done an amazing job of building a scanner that includes all the important features and then some: Great image quality, sprocketless film handling ideal for older material, digital pin registration, ergonomic industrial design, ease of use of the controller software, and a reasonable price point. It dropped right into our existing workflow with no modifications,” says Paolantonio.

Gamma Ray Digital, Inc., located in Boston Massachusetts, provides a wide range of mastering and finishing services for the feature film market, including 2k scanning, frame-by-frame digital restoration, color correction, custom encoding and Blu-ray/DVD authoring.
